Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

GEO is optimizing your content so generative AI systems surface and reference your brand inside their generated answers.

Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO, is closely related to AEO. The focus is on getting your brand and content referenced inside the answers that generative AI systems produce. Where AEO is broadly about being the answer, GEO leans into how large language models assemble and attribute information when they generate a response.

How GEO works in practice

  • Publish content with clear claims, sources, and data that a model can attribute to you.
  • Build topical depth so the model associates your site with a subject, not just one page.
  • Keep facts current and consistent across your site, since contradictions hurt trust.
  • Earn mentions elsewhere, because models weigh what other sites say about you too.
