A content pillar is a substantial page that covers a broad topic in depth and acts as the hub for a group of related posts. The pillar links down to the specific articles, and they link back up to it. Together they form what people call a topic cluster.
Why pillars work
Search engines reward sites that show real depth on a subject rather than one shallow post. A pillar plus its cluster signals that you actually cover the topic. It also keeps visitors moving through related pages instead of bouncing.
A simple example
- Pillar: a complete guide to SEO for small businesses.
- Cluster posts: technical SEO basics, local SEO, keyword research, link building, and so on.
This is the structure I use when building out a content plan, because it compounds over time. It connects directly to your content strategy.
