TL;DR

Local SEO is mostly a handful of basics done consistently: claim and fully fill out your Google Business Profile, keep your name, address, and phone identical everywhere, build genuinely useful pages for the places you serve, and fix the technical foundation underneath.

Local SEO is one of those things that sounds technical and turns out to be mostly about doing a handful of basics properly and consistently. If your customers are in a specific city or area, this is often the cheapest, fastest marketing win available to you.

Start with Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is the single highest-leverage local asset you have. Claim it, fill out every field, pick the right categories, add real photos, and keep your hours accurate. Then ask happy customers for reviews and actually reply to them. This alone moves you up in the map pack for a lot of businesses.

Get your name, address, and phone consistent

Search engines cross-check your business details across the web. If your address or phone number is written three different ways across your site, Facebook, and Yelp, that inconsistency works against you. Pick one format and make it match everywhere.

Build pages for the places you serve

If you serve more than one city, a genuinely useful page for each one helps you show up when someone searches "[your service] in [their city]." The key word is useful. A thin page that just swaps the city name is a doorway page and can hurt you. A real page that speaks to that city earns the ranking. I do exactly this across my own service areas in North Texas.

Do not skip the technical foundation

Speed, mobile-friendliness, and clean structured data still matter locally. If the basics are broken, the rest struggles. If you are not sure where you stand, a free audit is the quickest way to find out, and you can read more about technical SEO in the glossary.

Local SEO is not glamorous, but for a service business it usually pays back faster than almost anything else. If you happen to be in North Texas, I wrote a more specific walkthrough on SEO for Dallas small businesses. If you want a hand with it, that is part of my SEO service.
