There is a lot of noise about AI right now, so let me be practical. For a small team, AI and automation are most valuable when they take a boring, repetitive task off your plate so you can do the work only you can do. That is the whole game. Everything else is a distraction.

Where it actually pays off

  • Lead follow-up. The faster you respond to an inquiry, the more likely you close it. Automating the first response and the reminders is a quiet revenue win, and it is the cheapest fix for the lead follow-up problem most businesses have.
  • Appointment and review requests. Reminders cut no-shows. Automated review requests build the local reputation that helps your SEO.
  • Data plumbing. Moving information between your forms, CRM, and reporting without anyone copying and pasting.
  • First-draft content and support. AI is good at a starting point a human then edits. It is not good at being the final author.

Where it is mostly hype

Be wary of automating anything that needs real judgment or a genuine human relationship. Customers can tell when they are talking to a wall. The goal is to remove busywork, not to remove yourself from the parts that matter.

How to start

Pick the single most repetitive task in your week and automate just that. Tools like n8n, paired with your existing CRM, can usually handle it without a big platform migration.
